| Welcome
to Charlottesville! Things
to do in Town: • Downtown Mall of Charlottesville—Lots of things to do from the Ice Park to the homemade ice cream at Chaps, and the Discovery Museum. It's always fun to hit the Charlottesville Pavillion and catch a music venue or doodle on the Free Speech Wall. Right off the mall you can also find the Old Michie for some great children's theatre and WeeVille, a great place to have the kids run around or take some kids' classes. • University of Virginia— Guided tours of the University are offered several times daily or you can pick up a self guided map at the Rotunda. Be sure to bring a Frisbee, ball and glove and picnic lunch to take full advantage of the Lawn. • Stroller-Friendly Nature Walks— Ivy Creek Natural Area: Ivy Creek Natural Area has six miles of walking trails and a paved trail that is perfect for strollers and little ones who need a nice, level surface to walk on and the occasional rest stop at a bench. Thomas Jefferson Parkway and Kemper Park: A 3.2 miles round-trip stroll on a gentle grade, with a Carter’s Mountain Overlook where you enjoy spectacular views. Stroller friendly. • Monticello Tours—Sometimes they have tours specifically for children and their families, with hands-on opportunities and a child-friendly focus. They also have a great yard to run around and have a picnic. • Carter Mountain Orchard—High above Charlottesville (1,150 feet to be exact!) with stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Families throughout the region can mark the seasons by their visits...summertime peaches, the dazzling array of autumn apples, the Halloween pumpkin patch, hay rides and more. |
